A RESOLUTION TO RESPECTFULLY AND EARNESTLY REQUEST SENATE OF THE PHILIPPINES THRU SENATOR FERDINAND R. MARCOS JR., REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES, TO DECLARE SEPTEMBER 20 OF EVERY YEAR AS A SPECIAL (NON WORKING) HOLIDAY IN THE PROVINCE OF ILOCOS NORTE IN HONOR OF THE LATE DONA JOSEFA LLANES-ESCODA, WORLD WAR II HEROINE AND FOUNDER OF THE GIRL SCOUT OF THE PHILIPPINES

WHEREAS, Article XIV, Section 15 of the Constitution provides that "The State shall conserve, promote, and popularize the nation's cultural heritage and resources;

 

WHEREAS, Josefa Llanes Escoda, the founder of the Girl Scout  of the Philippines and Heroine of World War II was born on September 20, 1898 in Dingras, Ilocos Norte;

 

WHEREAS, Josefa Llanes Escoda is considered as one of the country's most illustrious women who championed the cause of socio and civic services which earned for her the distinction and honor as one of the greatest  heroines of World War II;

 

WHEREAS, there is a need to strengthen the people's awareness of the heroic deeds of the GSP founder and heroine;

 

WHEREAS, the declaration of September 20 as Josefa Llanes Escoda Day and a special  holiday would be a fitting tribute for her priceless contributions to humanity;

 

WHEREFORE, on motion of Hon. Lester Ballesteros duly seconded by Hon. Samuel N. Demandante, it was;

RESOLVED, as it is hereby resolved to respectfully and earnestly request Senate of the Philippines thru Senator Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., Republic of the Philippines, to declare September 20 of every year as a special (non-working) holiday in the Province of Ilocos Norte in honor of the Late Dona Josefa Llanes Escoda, World war II heroine and founder of the Girl Scout of the Philippines;

 

RESOLVED FINALLY, to authorize the SB Secretary to transcribe this resolution and furnish copies to Senate of the Philippines thru Sen. Ferdinand R. Marcos, Republic of the Philippines, for their favorable consideration and approval.
